If you’re taking TOPIK, there’s one small thing that students often overlook, which is the computer pen.
It sounds simple, but using it the wrong way can actually cost you marks.
So here’s a quick guide to make sure you use it properly.
First thing first,
What Is the TOPIK Computer Pen?
On the test day, you’ll be given a special pen to use for your answers.

It’s a double-sided pen, which means both ends are different.
One side is thin
One side is thick

And yes, which side you use actually matters. Think about it, if you use the thicker side to write the essay for TOPIK II, it will be hard to read since the handwriting will be bold.
Which Side to Use
This is the part you should remember.
Thin tip (for writing)
Use this for your name and writing sections
Thick tip (for filling answers)
Use this for multiple choice questions
If you’re unsure during the test, you can also check the printing on the pen,
쓰기 is for writing, 듣기 읽기 is for filling the answers.
Filling Answers
When using the thick tip:
Fill the circle completely
Make it dark and clear
Stay inside the bubble
Try not to rush this part. Light or messy marks may not be read properly (by the computer).
*If you are really out of time, I really mean 'out of time', you try to cover at least more than half of the blank.

Writing Section
When using the thin tip:
Write clearly and neatly
Avoid using pen or pencil at all

If You Make a Mistake
Use your correction tape.
Cover the mistake fully
Then write or fill again clearly
Or you can just strike it off with two lines (especially when you are out of time!)

A Quick Look at the Official Guide
If you have a minute, it’s worth checking the official instruction sheet below. It shows real examples of correct and incorrect answers, which can be helpful before the exam:
You don’t need to read everything, just glance through the answer examples.
